The Uttar Pradesh Council of Ministers on Friday passed a resolution approving the renaming of the Noida International Airport in Jewar to Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision during a press briefing in Lucknow following a state Cabinet meeting where 39 proposals were cleared.

The administrative move coincides with a congratulatory resolution adopted by the state government to honour Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years of continuous service as the head of a government. Chief Minister Adityanath stated that the Council of Ministers extended its gratitude to the Prime Minister for gifting the aviation facility to the state, designating it as the largest airport in Uttar Pradesh.

Located in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the greenfield project serves as a secondary commercial hub for the National Capital Region alongside Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The first phase of the facility was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on March 28, with commercial operations commencing subsequently.

The airport is being developed through a public-private partnership between Yamuna International Airport Private Limited—a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG—and state authorities. Current master plans project the facility to handle up to 12 million passengers annually in its initial phase, with expansion targets reaching up to 70 million passengers per year by 2050.

During the briefing, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized the personal connection between the Prime Minister and Uttar Pradesh, noting that Modi represents the Varanasi constituency in Parliament. He credited the central leadership with transforming regional infrastructure through expressways, highways, metro expansions, and multi-modal transit links since 2017.

Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak joined senior alliance leaders during the announcement. The formal renaming proposal will now proceed through administrative channels for final implementation by aviation authorities.
