Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited signed a definitive agreement on Monday with global automotive major Stellantis to widen their strategic partnership into advanced technology and product development.
The formal accord builds upon a memorandum of understanding executed between the two groups in February, evolving their relationship from a two-decade manufacturing alliance into a comprehensive framework for shared vehicle architecture and engineering.
Under the terms of the agreement, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles will provide Stellantis with access to its proprietary product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis will build upon these foundations using its local product development and engineering operations in India to configure models suited for international markets.
Vehicles engineered through this alliance will target regulatory, operating, and customer requirements spanning more than 50 global destinations. Production will be anchored at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited, the existing 50:50 joint venture facility situated in Ranjangaon near Pune.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, noted that the agreement extends their long-standing association into advanced vehicle technology and architecture, reflecting the industrial competitiveness of the domestic firm's capabilities.
Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis' Asia-Pacific region, stated that the collaboration combines local engineering strengths with international market reach to build competitive vehicles for export.
The initiative leverages India's manufacturing scale and engineering depth to position the country as a primary node in the partners' global production and export network. Existing manufacturing operations at the Ranjangaon facility encompass both vehicle assembly and powertrain production, supporting multiple brands across domestic and overseas channels.
