The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear a contempt petition filed by the Union government challenging the appointment of Tadasha Mishra as the Director General of Police for Jharkhand. A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana took up the matter after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pressed for an urgent listing. The Centre has challenged the legality of the appointment, arguing that it violates procedures established under the landmark 2006 Prakash Singh judgment regarding police reforms and bypasses norms set out in the state's 2025 regulations for selecting the head of the police force.
