Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of committing treason through electoral manipulation and declared that he will be sent to jail. Speaking before a packed gathering at New Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, Gandhi warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that they would face legal proceedings for alleged vote theft.

The high-voltage demonstration marked a central escalation by the INDIA bloc against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Opposition parties allege that the revision process resulted in the mass deletion of roughly 15 percent of voters following the 2024 general elections, skewing democratic representation and undermining constitutional integrity.

Accompanied by senior coalition figures including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Gandhi marched to the venue after participating in a public impeachment motion adopted against the Chief Election Commissioner. The opposition leaders claimed that administrative machinery was systematically misused to suppress citizen mandates.

Addressing thousands of supporters, Gandhi argued that the mandate secured by the governing dispensation in 2024 was legally compromised. He maintained that removing the Chief Election Commissioner remains the primary step toward restoring institutional accountability, adding that the opposition will pursue legal recourse against the executive leadership without backing down.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and other opposition speakers echoed these concerns, targeting the ruling administration over employment crises, agrarian distress, and the erosion of democratic checks and balances. Protesters across the capital carried banners demanding the protection of voting rights while security forces maintained strict oversight around central Delhi zones.

The coalition intends to sustain its nationwide outreach against the poll panel's revision procedures, pressing for administrative restructuring and judicial accountability as political friction intensifies ahead of upcoming legislative sessions.
