A high-end luxury car crashed into a fuel dispensing unit at a petrol station near Attibele on the southern outskirts of Bengaluru late Wednesday night, triggering a sudden fire that gutted the vehicle and damaged the station infrastructure.

The accident, which occurred around 11:15 pm at an HP petrol filling station near the state border with Tamil Nadu, caused immediate panic among motorists and staff before emergency services intervened.

According to local law enforcement personnel, the driver of the Jaguar sedan was identified as Sanjay, a resident of the area travelling with a young woman. Police stated that the motorist allegedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to maneuver near the pumps, striking a station employee before smashing directly into the fuel dispenser.

The impact ruptured the refuelling unit and sparked instant flames that engulfed the car within moments. Station worker Guddu Kumar sustained serious injuries to his legs during the collision and the ensuing fire, and was subsequently rushed to a private hospital for emergency medical care.

Quick action by the occupants of the car and station attendants prevented further escalation, as Sanjay and his companion managed to escape the burning vehicle before the fire intensified. Bystanders and station staff detained the driver at the scene and turned him over to arriving police teams.

Fire rescue units responded swiftly to the emergency call. One fire tender each from Electronics City, Anekal, and neighboring Hosur across the state border rushed to the location, bringing the blaze under control after nearly an hour of firefighting operations and preventing the flames from reaching underground fuel storage tanks.

Attibele police have registered a formal case against the driver and taken him into custody for questioning amid suspicions of driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and vehicle telemetry to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash, while further inquiries remain under way.
