The Karnataka government is weighing a proposal to establish overseas offices of the Invest Karnataka Forum in five nations to attract industrial projects and capture foreign capital. Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil stated on Tuesday that the state is examining the feasibility of opening dedicated outposts in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and France.

The initiative addresses the state's need to maintain competitiveness as Indian states vie aggressively for manufacturing and technology investments. Establishing a direct institutional presence abroad is expected to help Karnataka pitch its industrial ecosystem directly to international corporate boards, reducing bureaucratic distance for prospective manufacturing ventures.

During a meeting of the Invest Karnataka Forum Board of Directors held at Khanija Bhavan in Bengaluru, Patil directed department officials to evaluate the practical pros and cons of the expansion. Authorities have been instructed to conduct formal consultations with stakeholders and prepare a comprehensive assessment report before the cabinet decides on implementation steps.

State officials noted that competitive pressures from rival states necessitate proactive international engagement. Several regional governments have already established foreign facilitation desks to court overseas manufacturers. Karnataka authorities emphasized that the state cannot afford to lag behind in courting capital for its target sectors.

The proposed foreign outposts will focus on matching Karnataka's targeted industrial capabilities with the distinct sectoral specialisations of each host nation. State policy currently prioritizes advanced manufacturing, semiconductor fabrication, aerospace, and defense engineering as core pillars for future economic expansion.

Under the preliminary framework discussed by the board, the state is evaluating two distinct operational models. Officials are weighing whether to station domain experts to direct specific foreign offices or to designate specialized country leads operating under the umbrella of the Invest Karnataka Forum.

Following the assembly elections, the state administration restructured the investment forum to improve operational agility. Officials maintain that a revamped international strategy is vital under the updated industrial policy framework, which identifies specific global markets for targeted outreach.

The board of directors will convene for a follow-up meeting shortly to review the detailed feasibility findings submitted by the directorate and finalize the institutional framework for the overseas expansion.
