The Food Safety and Drug Administration inspected 45 ice cream manufacturing units across Karnataka, uncovering expired raw materials, sanitation lapses and labeling violations at multiple facilities. The enforcement action targeted commercial establishments to verify adherence to established hygiene protocols and statutory standards.

In Bengaluru, inspection teams visited premises in the south zone and flagged two units for stocking products past their expiration dates. At Savara Ice Cream Cafe located in Jayanagar 3rd Block, officials confiscated expired Britannia biscuits, Nandini Samrudhi milk, alkalized tea and coffee mixes, and desiccated coconut powder. A second facility, M N Enterprises in Bilekahalli off Bannerghatta Road, was found holding expired plain caramel, Nestlé Milkmaid, and Milky Mist khoa, alongside documented labeling deficiencies.

Across the wider state sweep, the regulatory agency extended its scrutiny beyond the capital city. Inspectors discovered unhygienic working conditions at the Gemini Ice Cream Manufacturing Unit in Raichur, prompting the issuance of a formal notice. In Mysuru, authorities inspected the John Candy Ice Cream Manufacturing Unit, where they identified labeling shortcomings and seized finished ice cream products valued at ₹20,000.

During Thursday's operations, enforcement personnel gathered 70 samples spanning finished ice cream, fluid milk, milk powder, flavoring agents, sugar, and various food additives. These specimens have been dispatched to government-run food testing laboratories to evaluate compliance with prescribed safety parameters. Department representatives noted that analytical results from the laboratories are pending.

The statewide checks form part of an ongoing regulatory enforcement campaign initiated by the health administration. Officials confirmed that further legal proceedings will be launched against the defaulting proprietors under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its accompanying regulations. Additional inspections targeting the dairy and frozen dessert supply chain are scheduled to proceed across the state.
