The Kannada science-fiction social thriller Lambodhara 2.0, directed by Simple Suni and featuring a real-life humanoid robot named Jia in an on-screen role, is scheduled to hit cinema halls across the country on November 20. The project will release simultaneously in Kannada and Hindi under the presentation of Mahaveer Jain Films.
The film marks a notable milestone for Indian cinema by integrating an actual machine rather than relying entirely on computer-generated imagery or actors in prosthetics. Developed by Bengaluru-based Machani Robotics, the robot named Jia portrays an integral character alongside human cast members, offering a distinct angle to the narrative.
Set against the backdrop of contemporary digital culture, the plot centers on artificial intelligence, social media addiction, and the constant pursuit of online validation. The storyline revolves around a high-stakes happiness challenge that examines whether technological connectivity genuinely brings emotional fulfillment or subtly erodes personal free will.
Anil Shetty makes his feature film debut as the lead actor while also producing the movie under his Mass Productions banner alongside the core creative team. The cast features Saachi Bindra, Meghana Gaonkar, and Mac D'Souza, alongside Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor, who makes his entry into Kannada cinema through this project.
Production on the film commenced in January and wrapped principal photography recently. The technical crew includes cinematographer Santhosh Rai Pathaje and music composer Veer Samarth. Mahaveer Jain, known for backing films such as Uunchai and Ram Setu, boarded the project to drive its pan-India theatrical rollout.
The first look of the feature is slated for release on October 14, setting the stage for its late November theatrical arrival. Industry analysts note that the film's success at the box office will depend heavily on audience reception to its unconventional blend of social commentary and robotics.
