Thousands of supporters and senior opposition figures converged on central Delhi on Monday for a four-hour demonstration against the Election Commission of India. The rally proceeded along Barakhamba Road toward the apex court amid a heavy security deployment.

Congress organizers stated that approximately 2.5 lakh individuals participated in the political mobilization, drawing attendees from multiple states. The unified opposition front has directed its opposition toward the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the administrative decisions led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Following the street demonstration, eleven opposition leaders moved the Supreme Court by filing a formal petition under Article 32 of the Constitution. The legal challenge questions the electoral body's execution of the revision exercise and explicitly names top election officials as respondents.

The petitioners include prominent opposition figures such as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy, and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav, alongside leaders from several other allied parties.

Concurrently, the Supreme Court Registry flagged fourteen procedural defects in the filed writ petition, seeking clarifications regarding the inclusion of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners as respondents. The registry also noted fee shortfalls and missing documentation in the initial filing.

In response to the demonstration, Delhi Police registered multiple first information reports at police stations including Barakhamba Road, Tilak Marg, Connaught Place, and Mandir Marg. Authorities cited violations of prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, alongside charges concerning barricade-breaking and graffiti on public thoroughfares.

The political confrontation follows recent friction surrounding designated protest sites in the capital, after government steps to denotify Jantar Mantar drew criticism from various political groupings and civil entities. Opposition representatives indicated they would maintain pressure on administrative and judicial fronts as the legal proceedings develop.
