Delhi Police have registered two separate First Information Reports at the Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg police stations following a demonstration led by opposition parties in the national capital. Law enforcement officials stated on Tuesday that no official permission had been granted for the march toward the Supreme Court, which took place on Monday.
According to police accounts, several participants and leaders were allegedly seen breaching security barricades with the assistance of a mini-truck during the procession. Investigators have also cited instances of graffiti painted on public thoroughfares along the route of the demonstration.
The protests were organized to voice opposition against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and to challenge decisions concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Following the street demonstrations, eleven opposition leaders moved the apex court with a formal petition regarding the electoral roll revision.
In a parallel development, the Supreme Court Registry flagged multiple technical defects in the writ petition filed by senior opposition figures, including Congress leaders. The Registry sought clarifications on the inclusion of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners as respondents in the legal challenge.
Meanwhile, separate legal actions unfolded as law enforcement authorities detained key activists attempting unauthorized access near Jantar Mantar. Legal representatives for the detained individuals criticized the police response and restricted access during the detentions.
Authorities have indicated that further inquiries are underway regarding law and order infractions connected to the demonstrations. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear related pleas concerning public transport disruptions and protest regulations later in the week.
