Delhi Police rejected permission for a proposed demonstration by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar, stating that the organizers submitted their notice far too late and violated conditions during past gatherings. The decision arrived after days of rising political friction surrounding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and demands targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad addressed a press briefing to outline the rationale behind the official denial. Authorities noted that CJP co-convener Saurav Das submitted an intimation letter on October 7 concerning the October 10 event. Police officials emphasized that such notifications must be delivered at least ten days prior to any planned public demonstration under standard administrative guidelines.
Apart from the delay in submission, police authorities pointed to previous conduct by the group. Law enforcement officials stated that during an earlier protest permitted at the site, organizers failed to comply with lawful directions and breached specific undertakings given to the administration. These factors, weighed alongside current law and order assessments, led to the decision to withhold approval for the gathering.
Ahead of the scheduled date, security measures across the national capital were tightened significantly. Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita remained in active operation across the New Delhi district to maintain public order and restrict unauthorized assemblies. Police urged members of the public to refrain from participating in the unapproved event and warned that strict legal action would follow any violations of prohibitory orders.
Organizers maintained their opposition despite the administrative block, releasing digital appeals for supporters to assemble at the capital site. The friction follows ongoing disputes over voter list revisions implemented by the Election Commission of India. Police deployments and traffic diversions remained in place across key central intersections to manage movement and prevent unauthorized congregations.
