State Bharatiya Janata Party president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday formally accepted a challenge thrown by Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar concerning alleged voter deletions during the electoral roll revision process. Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad, the BJP leader challenged the Minister to present affected individuals along with documentary proof at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
The political exchange comes amid heightened national friction over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. While opposition parties staged demonstrations in New Delhi demanding the rollback of the exercise, state-level sparring in Hyderabad intensified over claims of missing and deleted votes.
Mr. Rao stated that the Congress leadership should fix a specific date and time to bring at least ten persons who claim they lost their franchise. He added that he would personally participate in a verification proceeding at the Chief Electoral Officer's office to inspect official records.
Distinguishing between missing and deleted entries, the BJP leader asserted that no eligible citizen's name can be removed without prior notice and thorough field-level verification. He maintained that corrective measures would be initiated immediately if any wrongful deletion is legally established under election guidelines.
At the same time, Mr. Rao demanded that the ruling party apologize if it fails to substantiate its claims with concrete evidence. He accused the state government of attempting to deflect public attention away from pressing agrarian concerns, including drought conditions affecting farming communities.
Launching a separate critique against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the BJP chief took strong exception to political references involving Hindu deities. He alleged that the ruling dispensation engages in vote-bank politics while attempting to posture as a defender of faith.
Further criticizing the administration's priorities, Mr. Rao claimed that officials had failed to address ground-level hardships such as drinking water shortages and power-related grievances. He noted that party representatives had visited several distressed agrarian sectors to interact with affected cultivators.
With both political formations locking horns over administrative procedures and electoral integrity, local units are expected to pursue formal verifications and political campaigns as the debate over voter roll revisions continues.
